Fashion of Kanye West

Kanye West, known originally and mostly for his extraordinary on-going Music career spanning multiple generations. However, over the recent decade West has proven to excel in a different profession, Designing. Throughout his designing career he has created Shoes, clothes and apparel which like many things in West career have been extremely decisive and controversial which usually resulted in a mixed view on the products, either you love it or hate it no middle ground. 

 

Yeezys are undeniably West most successful and mainstream fashion creation. From their origins in 2009, alongside the partner Nike, yeezys where an instant hit with sneaker fans, in the following years the brand skyrocketed in popularity and eventually in 2013 a 10 million dollar deal was signed with adidas. Since the adidas deal the variation of Yeezy expanded exponentially, some new Yeezy types include the yeezy 350s,700s and 380s all of which are still being sold today and each having their unique fan bases who religiously buy them in different colorways. I have to admit I have bought into the Yeezy craze, buying my first pair of yeezy 350s in 2019 and since then have bought more to add to the collection, I think what makes Yeezy such a popular shoe choice is the unique design and colorways they come in but undoubtably the main contributing factor to their success is the name behind them, Kanye West. From the success West had in entering the fashion industry as a result of the yeezys he created his very own fashion show simply called Yeezy. Through this west has shown off his eccentric fashion ideas is a runway style setting, to date Yeezy has had nine events over the years with each being drastically different from each other and so have seen a wide variation of reviews from the fashion community.

 

While Yeezys are the most mainstream fashion creation by West there are many other big successes and collaborations West has been a part of in the Fashion world. In 2020 West signed a 10-year deal with fashion retailer GAP, this deal paved the way for official collaborations between the Yeezy company and Gap and was received positively as Gap stock soared up 42% admit the news of the collaboration. Throughout 2021 and early 2022 the first of the collaborative items where released, including jackets and hoodies which sold out near instantly, again a testament to the power West has in not only the Music industry. However, Wests business mind reached further, in early 2022 he also teamed up with a fashion icon, Balenciaga and instead of doing the average collaboration west had the idea of collaborating three brands for the one collection of clothing items. So yeezy gap engineered by Balenciaga line of clothing was created and from it a whole clothing line was released on the 23rd of February 2022 and to no one’s surprise sold out instantly. Though theses built up relations and recognition within the fashion industry Kanye was given the opportunity

to walk for Balenciaga in their September 2022 Paris fashion show, showing that titans of the fashion space are recognizing the potential of west with fashion.

 

Over the years West has slowly built himself up and gained a reputation within the Fashion industry which many thought to be not possible. However due to recent controversy all associated brands such as Adidas, Gap and Balenciaga have cut ties with West so the future of his fashion career is unknown, only time will tell what the future for West within this highly competitive industry.
